Segway-Ninebot announced that they have entered into partnerships with Drover AI and Luna Systems, two startups which specialize in computer vision technology to detect and correct improper electric scooter riding, to integrate their technologies into AI-enabled e-scooters.
Segway-Ninebot will leverage this partnership to offer new features and services to their e-scooter riders, such as:
- Automatic Speed Limiting: Computer vision systems will be able to identify whether an e-scooter rider is accelerating too rapidly or riding in dangerous areas, and automatically limit their scooter’s speed accordingly.
- Lane Keeping Assistance: Computer vision systems will be capable of detecting when an e-scooter rider may veer out of their lane and providing visual and haptic alerts to remind them to remain within it.
- Pedestrian Detection: Computer vision systems will be capable of recognizing pedestrians or any obstacles in an e-scooter rider’s path and giving visual and haptic alerts in order to help avoid collisions.
Segway-Ninebot, Drover AI and Luna Systems’ partnership is an important milestone towards creating safe and responsible e-scooter use. Through the new features and services enabled by this partnership, accidents or injuries related to e-scooters may be reduced substantially.
This partnership demonstrates the maturing nature of the e-scooter market. As its growth progresses, more companies may adopt innovative technologies to make e-scooters safer and more user-friendly.
