The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phones haven’t offered Samsung DeX, a desktop experience for your phone, until now. But the Z Flip 6 has a hidden surprise!
Secret Desktop Mode Revealed
When you connect the Z Flip 6 to a bigger screen, you won’t just see a mirror of your phone anymore. This new mode lets you open apps in separate windows, just like on a computer, and resize them to your liking. However, it doesn’t have a taskbar at the bottom like a traditional desktop.
To unlock this secret mode, you’ll need to enable “force desktop mode” in the developer settings on your phone.
Why No DeX?
DeX is a more powerful desktop experience that lets you use your phone like a computer, complete with a keyboard, mouse, and even multiple windows on screen. While the Z Flip 6’s desktop mode is a step up, it doesn’t seem to have all the features of DeX.
Samsung might be worried that the Z Flip’s folding design wouldn’t handle running a full desktop environment smoothly. This could explain why DeX hasn’t been available on the Flip phones before.
Looking Ahead: Full DeX on the Horizon?
The original Z Flip 5 was the first in the series to even connect to an external display. Now, the Z Flip 6 offers a more desktop-like experience. With this progress, maybe the next Galaxy Z Flip phone (Z Flip 7) might finally get the full Samsung DeX treatment!
